What is the Snorkel used for?

The snorkel is an extension of the air intake designed exclusively for Ural sidecars. But why would you want to install a snorkel on your sidecar ? Here are two reasons that might convince you to do so.

Fording a river using the snorkel

1/ Enabling river fording:

It is normally impossible to ford a river with a Ural sidecar. This is because water seeps in through the air box inlet and enters the engine, where it can mix with the oil and cause significant damage to your sidecar.

The snorkel was designed to solve this problem. Raising the air box prevents water from entering. This means you can now ford rivers with your Ural sidecar. This protects the safety and integrity of the engine, preventing you from getting stuck on your Ural road trips.

2/ Fresher and less dusty air for the engine:

Raising the air box inlet means that the air intake is less exposed to direct dust. As it is not enclosed within the engine, it draws air from higher up, which limits the absorption of dust trapped behind the alternator. The Snorkel therefore generates better air quality to optimize engine performance!
