The Snorkel for Ural Conception

We invite you to discover how and why we developed the Snorkel for Ural. Find out all about the conception process by Moto Side Aventure.

The Snorkel was originally created at the request of one of our customers at Moto Side Aventure. The customer wanted to go off-road in Iceland, which involved fording rivers. This is normally impossible for Ural sidecars because water can enter the air box and be directly absorbed by the engine (risk of serious engine damage).

Seeing that there was no viable solution, Moto Side Aventure decided to develop a solution with the Snorkel for Ural. This was not the first time that Moto Side Aventure had developed an accessory for sidecars. A luggage rack system for Ural sidecars had been developed for Ural sidecars. This experience was useful in the design of the Snorkel.

Several constraints had to be taken into account during the design process. First, the Snorkel was designed and engineered to fit directly under the tank and work around the parts that were in the way, while maintaining the intake diameter required for the engine to function properly. The Snorkel is made of PC-ABS (a mixture of polycarbonate and ABS) designed to withstand heat (over 120°C). It was designed using 3D printing with a removable cap on top to protect the air intake. Four prototypes were needed to arrive at a testable model.
